It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years—yes, twenty—since Corey Woods, better known as Raekwon The Chef, followed up the fiery success of his legendary hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan with the release of his inaugural solo album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Also known as The Purple Tapes (as the album, born in the cassette era on the verge of a compact disc revolution, was exactly that), the record featured other member of the Wu-Tang and sparked a feeding frenzy of sorts for his beatsy, gritty rhymes and—after immortalizing the Polo Ralph Lauren “Snow Beach” jacket in the 1994 Wu-Tang video “Can It Be All So Simple”—his fashion swagger.

Wu-Tang Clan member and noted chef Raekwon trotted out a remastered version of Polo's crazy-rare (like, $10,000 rare) "Snow Beach" jacket; simultaneously, the dudes waiting in line at Supreme all went woozy but didn't know why.

Coachella 2015: Raekwon & Ghostface Perform ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’

Rae took fans all the way back to 1995 — wardrobe and all — as he debuted a custom made Linx Beach jacket to honor the now immortalized Ralph Lauren Snow Beachjacket worn in the “Can It Be All So Simple” music video. In the exhausting heat, Shallah did his 1,2 thing draped in the heavy material.

On his 46th birthday, Raekwon can be heard destroying the mic on a track that doesn’t sound like much else that he’s released over the course of his prolific career. The Wu-Tang Clan’s resident Chef was last heard on Busta Rhyme’s Christmas-Day mixtape, The Return Of The Dragon (The Abstract Went On Vacation) on the warning-filled street anthem “Watch How You Move,” but on this latest release, Heads are invited to hear a side of Rae not often heard.
